HUB SERVICES
REAL PROGRAMMES TO SUPPORT THE CHILDREN OF THAILAND
Based on the philosophy that all children and young adults should have the opportunity to learn as a basic right, The Hub functions as a unique youth service offering alternative education opportunities, intensive youth case-work and a ‘Skills for Living’ programme integrated into the model.
WE WORK WITH EXPERTS TO DELIVER THE BEST SERVICES
The Hub incorporates the services and support of external agencies, who are experts in their particular field, to supplement activities and workshops in the ‘Skills for Living’ programme. Other aspects are delivered by in-house staff who have a variety of skills and experience in different fields and receive regular training.

THE SKILLS FOR LIVING PROGRAMME
The centre’s Skills for Living programme is modelled on the successful Exodus Youth Education programme provided by the Exodus Foundation to homeless kids and struggling teens of 15- to 19-years-old in Australia
The Skills for Living programme has been adapted to provide education and basic skills for survival better suited to the unique challenges that the young people of Thailand face. For example, more than 2,000 Thai children die each day as a result of unintentional injury (UNICEF); half of which could be easily avoided. As many of these deaths are caused by factors such as road and traffic accidents, and drowning, education sessions and basic swimming survival skills will provide a fun, yet vital, element to the Thailand Skills for Living programme.
YOUTH ENTERPRISE PROGRAMME
The Youth Enterprise Programme provides enterprise opportunities for young entrepreneurs. The Hub provides budding businessmen and women with a platform to develop their ideas and skills to build a career and create employment opportunities for themselves.
“THE MOKEN PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DEPRIVED OF THEIR BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS”
This has led to entrenched poverty issues and difficult living conditions. The community has never had the opportunity to dream. If the elders of the community can not dream, this leaves very little opportunity for the development of the next generation. Our hope is that we can help them to establish their dream so that they may plan for the future of their children. The Surin Islands (หมู่เกาะสุรินทร์) is an archipelago of five islands in the Andaman Sea, located 55 km from the Thai mainland. This makes access to the islands very difficult, particularly when seas are rough. Administratively, the islands are part of Tambon Ko Phra Thong, Amphoe Khura Buri.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT FOR ISOLATED COMMUNITY OF SURIN ISLAND
Issues faced by the Monken people:
Overcrowding, slum-like living conditions with underdeveloped infrastructure and waste management.
More than half the community is stateless.
Only available education is the Program for External Basic Education – no options for professional or higher education.
The island has no professional health services – travel to the mainland hospital is expensive.
No good employment opportunities on the island.
No welfare services on the island.
